My work is abstract, inspired by observing details of colour in the natural and manmade environment. The choices I make concerning types of marks and colour are not literal translations. They may contain references to surfaces and degrees of sensation, relating to the focus, of any given piece that I am working on.

My strategy is to combine shapes, colours and textures that represent atmosphere and mood – which is why I am very often using hues in a symbolic manner. This layering of meaning encompasses the underlying concerns within my artwork be it collage, paintings or printmaking.

Steve Ratomski is a Fife based artist and printmaker. He graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in Drawing and Painting in 1971. He was principal teacher of Art and Design at Inverkeithing High School from 1997-2003. Steve is a professional member of the Society of Scottish Artists. Presently he is chair of Fife Dunfermline Printmakers Workshop and in 2005 he founded the Fife Polish Arts Group. He has exhibited widely throughout Scotland in both solo and group exhibitions, using a variety of media.
